Flip City Gymnastics Langley, BC

Flip City Gymnastics has moved to Walnut Grove!  Flip City has been teaching gymnastics to kids in the Langley area since 1998 when it was opened by Rusty and Sue Pierce. Since that time, thousands of children have enjoyed high quality instruction and improved their balance, strength, fitness and self-confidence. The club moved to Walnut Grove in 2011 where it continues to provide competitive and non-competitive instruction in Gymnastics, Trampoline, Hybrid Movement and Cheerleading. The club is now a “non-profit” organization with the ultimate goal of helping each child reach their potential both in sport and in life.

Why Gymnastics?

Gymnastics is a “core” sport, teaching skills that will help your children in any other sport they may try in their lives. Gymnastic skills provide the ability to acquire “general motor skills” which are inherent in many other sports. If these basic movement patterns are not acquired when a child is young, all other learning processes will be much more difficult for them. (For example adults who learn a sport, such as skiing, skating or surfing, have an easier time learning as well as less risk of injury, falls and sore muscles if they have done gymnastics as a child.) This is because our brain stores movement “patterns” which our nervous system accesses as we “develop”. Gymnastics helps all children develop balance, strength, focus, agility, flexibility and coordination as well as help develop listening skills, confidence, self-esteem and self-regulation. Gymnastics also helps the the brain’s cognitive functions by incorporating “cross-over” movements (“across the axis” of the body) which helps the left-brain (language/logic side) and right-brain (creative/spatial/emotional side) work together effectively.  In addition to all these core benefits, GYMNASTICS IS FUN! At Flip City, we believe that gymnastics is a joyful expression of youthful enthusiasm for all ages! It is “KICKING UP YOUR HEELS”, taken to the extreme!

Cathy Chapell, our women’s head coach was Olympic Coach in 2004. Rusty Pierce, our Trampoline Head Coach (and the Gym’s General Manager) was recognized as “one of Canada’s most outstanding national team coaches” when he was awarded the prestigious Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award, which recognizes coaches whose athletes have excelled at World Championship or Olympic events. (He received this award in 2004 along with Dave Ross-famous for coaching Rosie MacLennan and Karen Cockburn to Olympic Gold Medals in Trampoline). Rusty was a National Level Men’s Artistic Gymnast himself as well as Canadian Champion for Trampoline. Under Rusty’s guidance, Flip City athletes have attended six world championships in trampoline, since 2001 (including Adam Menzies winning gold and silver at the 2003 world trampoline championships in Hanover, Germany).  Rusty’s wife Sue Pierce  developed Flip City’s Preschool Gymnastics Program and she was also an Olympic Team member for Canada for Womens Artistic Gymnastics.  These are just a few of our talented coaches-for more info see our Flip City Staff Page.
